Prints, papers and collages inspire me not only because of the graphic outcomings but also because of the long process that involves creating a matrix, handpull a print or manipulate paper.
I feel myself fascinated by the sudden effects that I found through the process. There are many accidents generated that I can incorporate to the pieces of art. The mistery of not knowing exactly the result I am going to obtain makes me feel completely trapped by the process, since it seems to me that materials are alive.
Metals and cardboards become matrices, those receive ink that become stamps, fibers become a sheet of paper, paper scraps arranged together to create something new. This is a marvelous and incredible transmutation which is the guide of my work.
The result of this dialogue with materials leads me to emphasize shapes, colors and textures directed to enhance the ability to communicate as elements themselves, rather than a specific meaning. BEATRIZ MAHAN Viña del Mar, Chile 1973
I studied graphic design at the University of Valparaiso, where I became very interested in all kind of graphic compositions, specially those created through arts and crafts techniques.
After several years working as a designer and other fields, I moved to Barcelona, Spain, where I mantained this artistic inclination taking part in various courses and workshops, until I decided to devote myself to printmaking and collage in 2008 in order to develop my artistic career.
I have exhibited my work in Barcelona both collectively and individually, and I am currently working at my private studio and I run courses on different artistic techniques.
